EDUCATION & CAREER
Power Hour is a homework help and tutoring program for Club
youth. By encouraging members to develop the daily habit of completing
homework in a quiet, dedicated space with adult support, Power
Hour helps members improve their organizational and time
management skills, develop personal responsibility, and make a
commitment to school and learning. Thus, the overarching goal of
Power Hour is to boost members’ enthusiasm for learning and
strengthen their engagement in school.

Hempstead Boys & Girls Club introduced WISE Guys & Gals Curriculum to their members and created a challenge for the members to become STEMgineers! The members that completed 7 our of 10 projects during the school year would be named a STEMgineer. Each child receives a concept card that reviews the lesson and has a photo on the front. These cards enable our members to be able to look back at all the projects they have completed!
Summer Brain Gain is comprised of one-week modules with fun, themed activities for elementary school and middle school members. Supported by Disney, each module takes a project-based learning approach: youth engage in a process of learning through discovery, creative expression, group work and a final project or production. As a result, kids develop higher-order thinking skills through the Summer Brain Gain modules while staying on track for the coming school year.
