Career Day at Franklin PDF Print E-mail
News and Events - Events

The second annual career day was held at Franklin on Friday, April 29. The members had the opportunity to learn about different careers and what they would have to do in order to achieve their dreams. Mrs. Houston, a first grade teacher at Franklin, started off the night. She proved to be as entertaining as ever and the kids really enjoyed her informative talk. Following Mrs. Houston was Ranger Sue from Norman J. Levy Park and Preserve. She brought pictures of the animals she works with, like the baby goats. Julius Carty really liked this part since he wants to be a Zoologist and work with all kinds of animals. He said, “I want to heard the goats. Career day was cool.”

Next up was Mr. Kurt the former undercover cop and Ms. Shawna the nutritionist. She had really good advice for the kids about eating healthy and even handed out a healthy receipt for the kids to take home.

The next two presenters were both parents of members. Mr. Toure, the father of Omar and Khalil, spoke to the kids about being an architect. He brought his designs of a hospital and an amusement park he built. Nevethalie Saintune said, “I wish I got to go on the rollercoaster.” Mr. Batres, the father of Karent and Kennt, works for Telemundo so he told the kids about his experiences and then recorded them for a small segment he was working on. The kids and staff alike were excited to be on television. The last speaker closed out the night by reminding the kids of the importance of holding onto their dreams and doing what they love. Overall, career day was a success.
