Nat'l Popcorn Day at Fulton PDF Print E-mail
News and Events - Events
National Popcorn Day was January 19th this year. The children at Fulton and staff got together and celebrated the history of the infamous snack! They learned about the history of popcorn. They were able to make their own popcorn snack bag with the choice of three different types of popcorn. Cheddar popcorn, white cheddar popcorn and regular butter popcorn were their options! They had a choice between just watching the Smurf Movie while eating their popcorn or completing a Popcorn Painting Project. They used kernels of popcorn on toothpicks to paint any creation they wanted on a white paper plate. Check out the pictures below to see them creating their projects and a few of the finished products!

In the spirit of adding youth voice into the program, the Franklin Site held its second annual Kids' Choice Day. The members were able to select from three different activities for their Freestyle Friday. Some decided to learn how to make a healthy strawberry-banana smoothie, others played volleyball, and the rest choose to play Just Dance on the Wii. Overall, the event was a good way to get the kids to participate in things they find interesting and to promote healthy lifestyles. A big thanks goes out to Jericho Whole Foods for donating the ingredients for the smoothies.

Alexander and the Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day Essay Contest PDF Print E-mail
News and Events - News
The members at the Franklin Site recently put their writing skills to the test in an essay contest. Mr. Omar read Alexander and the Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day to the members. The main character described his worst day and then the kids were asked to do the same thing. They did a great job. Justin Bailey wrote about having to get his hair cut at the Barber Shop, Milton Allen told his story of a mean substitute his class had one day, Carrie Brown described going for a doctor’s appointment, and Kaira Acosta wrote about how her dog pooped in her room. However, after reading through all the essays, the Kid’s Council selected one winner from each group. Kamal Brown, Enio Rivas, Tiara Gregg, and Shaheem Crews were the winners. Congratulations!
